A day has 24 hours where in our country, most of the office
hours started from 8:00 am to 6.00 pm which is tends to 10 hours in a day. In
the morning when people start coming out on the streets to go to their own job
places (7:30 am to 9:00 am), The road of Dhaka become horrible situation due to
intolerable traffic jam.
If we analyze the road only Magbazar to Nabisco, it becomes
nightmare for all job holders to cross the road in time to hold the office
time. The main reason for the traffic jam is the link road of Bijoy Sarani
which is interconnected near Tibbot. And another reason is the day by day
increasing the number of private cars. Most of the Private cars are thoughts if
we follow the root Purana Paltan-Shahbag-Farmgate, then it will be taken lot of
time. So, they follow this Kakrail-Magbazar-Sat-Rasta route which creates agony
for those people whose destination is Mohakhali, Banani, Uttara etc.
The second point is the private car issue. There is a lot of
research on that one public transport (BUS) can carry 60 private car users.
According to Daily Star, 70% of registered vehicles comprise motorcycles and
private cars, which are considered as major reasons behind traffic congestion
and road crashes. [1]. According to BUET’s 2028 Accident Research Institute
(ARI), around 5 million working hours were wasted due to traffic jams in Dhaka,
which cost the country’s economy $4.35 billion annually, rising to $6.5 billion
in 2020.
There are also some reasons for creating traffic jams like
slow vehicle, condition of the roads and drainage worst conditions. Due to that
kind of scenario the traffic flow becomes distorted. For example, while people
came out from the office after the close of business, The number of buses become
decreased, due to worst condition of the roads and narrow roads. As a result,
it is very difficult to return home after working all day. It creates influence
in working efficiency of a job holder. And impacts on the works. If there have
any problem, then there have a solution. The government of Bangladesh can
control buying private car by increasing Tax percentage on it. And beside it
should be improving the quality of local transport services with proper
concerning people about benefits by arranging programs.
Also improve the quality of the drainage condition with
proper design capacity of the rainwater flow, so that overflow cannot create
congestion on the road. Try to improve the interconnecting link road deign, it
will also be responsible to reduce traffic jam. If we maintain those points,
then the traffic jam in rash hour will decrease day by day.
